As yet unconfirmed reports have been published on Slashdot and IOL reporting that WebSense has detected a virus which encrypts upto 15 different file types and then demands money to decrypt. However its slow spreading and currently a low risk. Injection method is a web site exploiting browser vulnerabilities.
Details are sketchy to say the least but according to the article here documents, spreadsheets and pictures are affected. However here at Vdot we suspect that with some data recovery skills you should be able to retrieve the original version of the encrypted documents if a minimal about of disk activity has occurred. A new worrying trend? Or a stupid criminal whos going to be picked up by tea time? |
