The Symbian Mobile phone virus is one year old today. The mobile phone virus that has been slowly spreading globaly was first supplied to Anti-Virus companies a year ago by Virusbuster, a Spanish virus collector.
The source code for Cabir appeared on the Internet late December 2004 and the spread increased as a result. Along with a number of variants that begun to appear at the start of the year. Although it was believed that the Cabir source code leaked, it was later released by the Virus Writing group 29a in their e-zine release. What started as proof of concept has spawned close to 100 malicious programs that are targeting phones that use the Symbian platform. many of which are Trojans. To date Cabir has been detected in the wild in some 30 countries. |
