Well it is the night before Christmas and the only thing stirring is a whole bunch of Malware authors trying to catch out us users. So far over the last couple of days a whole slew of nasties have been doing the rounds.

First we had an IRCBot variant on the 23rd which comes in the form of a file called ‘Christmas.exe’, when executed will attempt to download all kinds of nasties while it displays a pretty image to disguise what it is up to.

Next up we have a couple of other nasties that have surfaced, first is a Trojan that masquerades as a Christmas Jigsaw Puzzle. It uses rootkit technology to hide itself from the user on infected systems. The second nasty is a malicious Powerpoint file that uses an exploit of MS06-012 to attempt to drop embedded executables onto a users system. This nasty poses a nice Powerpoint slideshow with a Christmas theme, and comes as a the file ‘Christmas+Blessing-4.ppt’ to unsuspecting users.
