This bit of malware appears to have originated in Russia as it contains the text string ‘OTMOP03KAM HET!’ which is Russian and roughly translated means ‘No to brainheads’. Interestingly previous mobile phone malware such as Cabir have been very slow spreading, however something that can successfully exploit MMS as an infection mechanism could spread far quicker almost on a par with email based worms in the PC world. The other interesting point of this infection mechanism is that, anything that is a fast replicator could rack up a hefty phone bill for the victim. You can see a more in depth analysis of this new worm here provided by F-Secure. |
