It seems that the popular Cryptome site run by John Young is being threatened with closure due to a supposed violation of Verio/NTT’s AUP. It is reported on the Cryptome site that they have received from Verio/NTT a two week notice that their service will be terminated for the hosting of the Cryptome archives. The move is surprising as Cryptome as been with Verio since 1999 and has received a number of emailed notices from Verio's legal department in response to complaints from a variety of parties, ranging from British intelligence to alleged copyright holders to persons angry that their vices have been exposed. In every case Verio had accepted Cryptome’s explanation for publishing the offending material, and in some cases removal of the material, and service has continued. However in this latest instance it seems that Verio are stonewalling and not being as understanding as they once where. Of course this is just fuel for the conspiracy fires, spreading more fuel to the theory that the Governments of the world are conspiring to cover up the ‘truths’ published on the Cryptome site. We shall see what happens, we suggest that Cryptome moves away from US hosting to someone else in the Free World, we hear Sealand is nice. You can find out more on this saga here on the Cryptome site, you should also make a quick donation and grab yourself a DVD of the archive in the process. |
