No Microsoft haven't decided that everyone is running Pirate versions of Windows as a result of their WGA update. It isn't because Microsoft are bored already of producing patches this year. However it is true, in Microsoft’s advance notification of patches for March we have a total of ZERO security patches to be released next week. Microsoft will be releasing an update to the Malware Removal Tool and some non-security updates next week but no security updates. It may seem odd to you that Microsoft are not publishing any security patches this month considering there are at least five 0-Day vulnerabilities in Microsoft products that are waiting on fixes. With at least one of these 0-Days being exploited in the wild you have to wondered what the people in Redmond have been smoking this month. The top theory is that in the US this weekend the Daylight Saving Time switch is happening, it is three weeks earlier than usual this year. So to help the IT types having to deal with too many problems next week this months patch feast has been postponed. This is not unusual for Microsoft to skip security patch releases, the last time was September 2005, but it isn’t that common as we all know Microsoft products need constant patching to ensure their continued security. In the meantime, with all those 0-Days out there we suggest you keep your guard up. |
