Apple have released today a patch for their Quicktime product as advisory APPLE-SA-2007-05-1 and have released an update to Security Update 2007-004 to correct problems introduced by the original patch.

The update to Security Update 2007-004 includes a fix for a problem with AirPort on OS X 10.3.9 after the original 2007-004 was applied. It also includes an update to a problem with the FTPServer fix originally included in the original 2007-004 update.

The Quicktime fixes address the issue that was used during the ‘pwn-2-own’ contest run by TippingPoint at CanSecWest. The issue was discovered by Dino Dai Zovi, and affects Quicktime on OS X and Windows. You can find the Apple write up here and the issue has been discussed extensivilty since the use of the exploit during the CanSecWest ‘pwn-2-own’ contest.

If you run a Mac we suggest you fire up Software Update now and get the fixes, for Windows users it is highly recommended that if you have iTunes installed or Quicktime standalone you pop over to the Apple web site and get the update.
