This attack is being targeted a Paypal users and is quite simple. You get a mail that looks identical to the standard paypal payment receipt email, this email indicates you have received some trivial amount of money from someone. The amounts can vary however a common value seems to be $12 or £12, and you should claim your money in the usual manner. So you click on the link in the email and then are directed to a fake site which looks just like the normal paypal site, you are asked for your username and password and you attempt to log in and well the rest is history. Our advice to you would be that if your not expecting a paypal payment check the email carefully then if you need to log into paypal do not use any links in the email, go directly to www.paypal.com and log in there and check your balance. After all what may seem like free money could cost you a lot more. |
